Who wins with it
You write mostly home and auto, want the largest published carrier panel, and are happy to run (or move to) the EZLynx management system.
You are committed to a non-EZLynx AMS and need the rater's quotes to land in it without extra steps.
The good and the catch
What it is
EZLynx Rating Engine is a cloud personal lines comparative rater. You enter a home or auto risk once and get real-time quotes from many carriers. As of October 2026, EZLynx says the rater connects to 330+ carriers across 48 US states.
EZLynx was founded in 2003 and released its comparative rater in 2004, according to Insurance Journal. Applied Systems agreed to buy the company in January 2021. The article also cited an IIABA agency study naming EZLynx the most-used personal lines comparative rater. EZLynx still sells the rater under its own brand, alongside the EZLynx Management System and agency websites.
How it works
According to the vendor’s product page, a typical quote runs like this:
- Enter the applicant once. Quote templates can store common answers, underwriting information and producer codes.
- Prefill and validate. The rater pulls and verifies data from LexisNexis, Fenris, MSB and Google Maps. It flags missing or invalid answers while you quote.
- Rate across carriers. Real-time results come back from each carrier you have set up. A color-coded graph compares auto and home results.
- Present. Send the client an interactive proposal, optionally with a video message.
- Bind on the carrier side. EZLynx’s documented flow sends you to the carrier’s portal to bind and issue the policy.
Leads can also come in through a quote form on your agency website. EZLynx sends automatic follow-up emails for abandoned forms and creates tasks in the management system. Before renewal, clients can update their own risk details online so you can re-quote.
Where it’s strong
Carrier breadth. The published 330+ carrier panel is the largest we found among the major raters. That matters most if you need many markets, including tough property states. In May 2024, Florida’s Citizens Property Insurance Corporation gave its 7,000+ appointed agents no-cost access to the Rating Engine for home and dwelling fire quotes. In that release, EZLynx said 37,000+ agencies use its platform and run more than 14 million rating transactions a month.
One platform with the AMS. If you run the EZLynx Management System, the rater lives on the same platform. Quotes, clients and follow-up tasks don’t need a separate integration.
Front-of-house tools. Website quote intake, text-message quoting and interactive proposals are part of the product. Some raters sell these as add-ons.
What agencies tell us
Agencies on EZLynx describe a real trade-off. Data entry is lighter than on carrier sites and there’s one login, so staff aren’t clearing MFA at every carrier. An ops manager also pointed out that the rater bills a flat monthly fee, with no per-carrier charge. The catch is that the rater decides which markets and lines you can quote. The routine we hear most: take the rater’s first-pass number, then re-key the top three to five carriers in their portals to finish the quote and the replacement cost.
Where it falls short
No in-rater binding. The vendor’s workflow has you finish binding in each carrier’s portal. Some competitors now advertise binding inside the rater with participating carriers.
Third-party AMS fit is unclear. The product page documents only the EZLynx Management System. EZLynx’s partner page lists 39 technology partners, but they cover prefill, leads, payments and communications, not other agency systems. If you run a different AMS, ask exactly how quotes reach it.
The numbers don’t match. The rater page cites 13 million+ quotes a month, the homepage says 7 million+, and the 2024 Citizens release says 14 million+ transactions. Treat volume claims as marketing. Check carrier availability state by state for your own appointments.
Pricing and setup
EZLynx doesn’t publish prices. Its pricing page says cost depends on the number of users and the products you choose. Members of agency networks usually get a discount. We couldn’t confirm contract length, setup fees or implementation time. Ask for these in writing, along with the exit terms.
Who should look elsewhere
- Agencies on Vertafore’s AMS360 or QQCatalyst: Vertafore’s PL Rating documents direct integration with those systems and advertises binding inside the rater with participating carriers.
- Applied Epic agencies: Applied markets its own personal lines quoting module inside Epic, so quotes stay on the client’s account without a second system.
- Home-heavy agencies that want a free trial before committing: a smaller rater such as QuoteRUSH offers one, and it focuses on home, auto and flood by working directly on carrier websites.
What agencies say
Reviewers like entering a client once and quoting many carriers, and several say it saves hours of comparative quoting. Complaints focus on hard-to-reach customer support, rates that don't always carry over accurately to the carrier site, and gaps in some lines and states.
