Who wins with it
You want one personal lines rater for producers, your website and embedded partner quoting, and you can live with a 200+ carrier panel.
You need the largest carrier panel or a documented integration with a non-Zywave AMS before you buy.
The good and the catch
What it is
TurboRater is a web-based personal lines comparative rater. Insurance Technologies Corporation (ITC) built it. ITC was founded in 1983 in Carrollton, Texas. Zywave announced it would buy ITC in November 2020. In June 2021, Zywave also bought IBQ Systems, a Spokane-based rater, and said it planned to combine the two into one system. TurboRater’s product pages now redirect to Zywave’s site.
As of October 2026, Zywave says TurboRater connects to 200+ personal lines carriers. It quotes auto, homeowners, condo, renters, dwelling fire and motorcycle.
How it works
Based on Zywave’s product page and ITC’s legacy site:
- Enter the risk once. A single-entry form feeds every carrier you have set up.
- Underwriting rules run as you go. TurboRater applies carrier underwriting rules, flags ineligible risks and shows when prior approval is needed.
- Rates return. ITC’s site says multi-carrier results take about four seconds on average. Carriers choose how they connect. Some return real-time rates. Others use what ITC calls a manufactured rating method, and must give ITC 30 days’ notice of rate or underwriting changes.
- Hand off. Zywave says TurboRater sends quote data to connected agency systems. With Zywave’s Partner Platform, it moves policy details, coverages, premium and payment details into the client record when the policy binds.
- Review results. Reports track closing ratios by producer, location and carrier.
Where it’s strong
Quoting beyond the producer’s desk. Embedded quoting is central here, not an extra. TurboRater for Websites lets visitors compare carriers on your agency site. A Personal Lines Quoting API and a credit union version put quotes inside other companies’ apps and loan flows. In a Zywave case study, an agency said the API paid for itself within six months.
Up-front underwriting checks. Flagging ineligible risks and prior-approval needs before you present a quote can cut down on quotes that fall apart at the carrier.
Reporting. Producer, location and carrier-level reports help owners see who is closing and which markets are winning.
Where it falls short
Carrier panel. Zywave’s 200+ figure is below the 300+ that EZLynx and Vertafore publish. Confirm that your appointed carriers are live in your states.
Rate accuracy varies by carrier connection. ITC says some carriers use manufactured rating rather than real-time rates from the carrier. Ask which of your carriers are real-time and how often quotes differ from the carrier’s own system.
AMS fit outside Zywave. Zywave says TurboRater integrates with many leading AMS but names only its own Partner Platform. If you run another AMS, ask for a written list of integrations and what data moves.
Inconsistent public figures. The legacy ITC carrier page still says 250+ carriers. The legacy homepage’s “recently added carriers” list stops in 2022. Rely on Zywave’s current materials and a demo.
Pricing and setup
Neither Zywave nor ITC publishes TurboRater prices. The site has “Order Now” and demo requests. ITC offers free weekly training webinars through TurboRater Academy. We could not confirm contract length, setup fees or implementation time. Ask for these, plus API and website add-on pricing, before you sign.
Who should look elsewhere
- Agencies that need the widest carrier panel: EZLynx and Vertafore’s PL Rating both publish 300+ carriers.
- Vertafore AMS agencies: PL Rating documents direct integration with AMS360, Sagitta and QQCatalyst, and supports binding with participating carriers.
- Applied Epic agencies: Applied’s personal lines quoting module inside Epic avoids running a separate rater.
What agencies say
Reviewers on both sites like single-screen entry, fast multi-carrier quotes and dependable bridging, especially for non-standard auto. Complaints include carriers that aren't rated in real time or aren't supported, premiums that change after bridging, occasional slowness, and limited bridging into some AMSs.
