Who wins with it
You want renewals that cross a premium-increase rule shopped automatically with your appointed personal lines carriers, and you like paying per remarket.
Your renewal book is mostly commercial, or your key carriers sit on the beta list.
The good and the catch
What it is
ReFocus AI is retention software for insurance agencies and MGAs. It does two jobs. It scores which clients are likely to leave at renewal, and it remarkets renewals to your appointed carriers when they meet rules you set. The company lists San Diego as its location, and CB Insights dates its founding to 2019.
In October 2024 ReFocus closed a strategic seed round led by Avondale Insurtech Ventures, with Jetfile Technologies and the 2024 FIRE Accelerator cohort (Erie Insurance and ValueMomentum) taking part. The amount wasn’t disclosed.
How it works
The vendor describes this flow:
- Connect. Link your AMS or CRM, or upload data. Native integrations sync policy data, post results back and create follow-up tasks.
- Score. Retention Insights scans policy changes, payment history, claims and servicing patterns. Each week it delivers a ranked list with a cancellation likelihood score, the main churn drivers (premium increase, late payments, claims) and a confidence factor.
- Set rules. You define when to remarket: a premium increase over a threshold, line of business, renewal month, client tenure or claims history.
- Submit. When a policy trips a rule, ReFocus submits it for requoting to all of your appointed carriers or a subset you pick.
- Act. The vendor says returned quotes are bindable. Staff review them, send options to the client and, with approval, bind from the same screen.
The vendor doesn’t say whether quotes run through carrier APIs, portals or a rater.
Where it’s strong
Pricing you can see. Few tools in this space publish prices. ReFocus lists every credit package, what a remarket costs, and that credits don’t expire. Re-running the same account within 30 days is free.
A carrier list with honest labels. The carriers page names 39 carriers and splits them into 18 live and 21 beta as of October 21, 2026. Live carriers include Progressive, Travelers, Safeco, Nationwide, The Hartford, Hanover, Auto-Owners and GEICO.
Broad AMS reach. The vendor lists AMS360, QQCatalyst, Applied Epic, EZLynx, HawkSoft and Jetfile, plus AgencyZoom and Salesforce on the CRM side.
Two signals in one place. The risk score tells you who might leave. The remarketing rules act on the most common reason, a rate increase.
Where it falls short
Beta carriers. More than half the carrier list is beta, and the vendor warns those results may be less consistent. Many beta entries are Florida and coastal home writers, so check your own carrier mix.
Personal lines only. Every listed carrier is marked home, auto or both. Commercial remarketing isn’t documented.
Thin public detail. The site doesn’t explain the quoting method, how gaps in AMS data are handled, or security certifications. The homepage case study entries showed placeholder text as of October 2026.
Unsourced outcomes. The vendor cites a 2-4% retention lift and 30-50% less manual review time, with no method or sample size.
What agencies tell us
The need is real. A Missouri agency owner estimates her account managers spend a quarter to half their time on remarketing. She also argues the full policy picture lives on the carrier site, not in the AMS. That matters for any tool that remarkets from AMS data, so ask ReFocus what it does when AMS fields are missing or out of date.
Pricing and setup
As of October 2026, ReFocus sells prepaid credit packages: $5,000 for 500 credits up to $102,500 for 50,000. A standard remarket uses 8 credits, data enrichment adds 1, and monitoring costs 15 credits a month per 1,000 accounts. That works out to $80-$90 per remarket on the smallest package and about $16-$18 on the largest. Top-up credits cost $20 each. You can split a package into 12 monthly payments but must make all twelve.
New agencies get at least 225 free credits (about 25 remarkets) and three months of free monitoring. Buying is handled by the sales team for now; self-serve purchasing and an in-app balance are listed as in development.
Who should look elsewhere
- Commercial-heavy agencies. A commercial submission or remarketing tool fits better, since ReFocus documents only home and auto carriers.
- Agencies that want a full renewal review. Tools that review every renewing policy, flag coverage changes and draft client emails do more than score and requote.
- Small books on a budget. A low-cost renewal tracker or your AMS’s renewal reports may be enough before committing $5,000 up front.
