Who wins with it

Choose it if

You're a commercial agency or wholesaler buried in submission prep, renewals and COIs, and you want one AI tool that reads documents and writes back to your AMS.

Skip it if

You want independent customer reviews and a long track record before you hand an AI your carrier logins.

The good and the catch

+Covers the whole account cycle. Per the vendor, Cooper reads dec pages and loss runs, fills ACORD 125/126/140 and supplements, enters risks in carrier portals, compares quotes and drafts renewals and proposals.
+Certified Applied Epic connection. Cooper became an Applied Certified Partner on September 28, 2026, so Epic agencies don't buy a separate API connection, and Epic stays the system of record.
+Published security controls. The vendor lists SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA compliance, role-based access, audit logs and no model training on customer data (full product, Oct 2026).
+A low-cost way to start. Cooper Lite is $99/month introductory for agencies of up to 5 users, month-to-month, with a 7-day money-back guarantee.
−No public reviews or customer names. As of October 2026 we found no G2 or Capterra listing, and the vendor's product pages name no customer agencies.
−Results are vendor claims. Figures such as 99.2% form-fill accuracy and 4x faster first quote appear on the homepage with no stated method.
−Lite leaves out the integrations. Cooper Lite excludes AMS integrations, raters, automated portal submission and the SOC 2 and audit-log controls; those need the full product.
−Full pricing isn't public. Only Lite has a published price; the full product is quoted through a demo, and Lite's monthly usage limits aren't published yet.

What it is

Cooper calls itself “the AI coworker for insurance.” It’s built for retail agencies, wholesale brokers, MGAs and insurers, and claims TPAs. The company is based in San Francisco. Its job postings say it’s backed by Lightspeed, General Catalyst and Valor. The CEO is Akhilesh Koppineni.

Cooper doesn’t publish a founding or launch date on its site. In October 2026, Coverager reported that Cooper, which it said launched the year before, is one of three independently run businesses under Mandl, a new company launched by Nirvana Insurance’s Rushil Goel. In that report, Cooper said customers have processed more than $1 billion in premium with it. On September 28, 2026, Cooper announced that it had become an Applied Certified Partner for Applied Epic.

There are two versions. The full product connects to your AMS, raters and carrier portals. Cooper Lite is a self-serve tier for agencies with up to 5 users. It works from your inbox and files, with no AMS connection.

How it works

The vendor describes this flow for a commercial account:

  1. Intake. Forward emails and attachments, or point Cooper at your AMS and SharePoint. It reads dec pages, loss runs and applications.
  2. Build the submission. It pulls exposures and prior losses into the right fields. It fills ACORD forms and carrier supplements, builds a statement of values and a 5-year loss summary. In the vendor’s example, a six-building apartment risk gets ACORD 125, 126 and 140.
  3. Flag gaps. It flags only items that need a person, such as missing sprinkler status or unconfirmed roof ages. It also flags coverage gaps worth raising with the client, such as no hired auto.
  4. Fill the portals. It logs into carrier portals and enters the same risk in several at once, and you can watch it work.
  5. Compare and propose. As quotes arrive, it maps different carrier terms into one comparison, flags coverage differences and drafts the proposal in your template.
  6. Write back and renew. It writes updates to your AMS, tracks renewal dates and flags sublimit and exclusion changes.

For wholesalers, it screens each risk against the broker’s appetite and ranks markets with a match score. It also handles surplus lines tax, stamping and diligent-search affidavits. For COIs, it checks each request against the bound policy, sends routine ones and flags exceptions.

Where it’s strong

Commercial depth. The documented examples are real commercial work: habitational schedules, loss runs, ACORD 125/126/140, E&S compliance. Few AI tools show this much commercial detail on their site.

AMS fit. Cooper lists Applied Epic, AMS360, HawkSoft and EZLynx. The Applied certification means Epic agencies need one contract from Applied, and Cooper handles setup. The vendor says Applied’s certification program reviewed its integration and data handling.

Security in writing. The full product lists SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA compliance, role-based access, audit logs and no training on customer data.

Exception-based review. The design sends only mismatches and missing data to staff, and every field in Lite traces back to its source document.

Where it falls short

Young, with little outside evidence. We found no G2 or Capterra reviews and no named customer agencies as of October 2026. The homepage claims $970M+ in premium processed (more than $1 billion in later trade press), 99.2% form-fill accuracy and 4x faster first quote, without saying how these were measured.

Portal method is light on detail. The vendor says Cooper logs into carrier portals and enters the risk, and its site shows carrier logos such as Travelers, Chubb and The Hanover, but it doesn’t list which portals it works today. It also doesn’t say how carrier credentials are stored or what happens when a portal asks a question the documents don’t answer. Ask to watch a full submission, including the underwriting questions.

Approval steps for wholesale aren’t described. The wholesale page doesn’t say who signs off on quotes, binders or filings before they go out.

Lite is a different product. Lite excludes AMS integrations, raters, portal submission and the SOC 2 and audit-log controls.

Pricing and setup

Cooper Lite is $99/month introductory, normally $499/month, as of October 2026. It’s month-to-month with no setup fee or annual contract. Usage has monthly limits that the vendor says it will publish before they apply. There’s no free trial, but there is a 7-day money-back guarantee.

Full product pricing isn’t published; you get a quote through a demo. The vendor says setup is “one click” to connect your inbox, AMS, CRM and data stores, with no data migration, plus a guided walkthrough.

Who should look elsewhere

  • Personal lines agencies focused on auto and home volume. A comparative rater or a personal lines quoting tool fits better and costs less.
  • Agencies that only need portal re-keying. A browser autofill extension is simpler if your staff already have the data organized.
  • Buyers who want to stay inside their AMS vendor. Applied’s Epic Conductor (launched September 29, 2026), an AI layer built into Epic, and Vertafore’s Velocity AI agents (2026) are built into the AMS. Those features are also new, but they come from vendors with long agency track records.
