Who wins with it
Your team re-keys the same client into several carrier portals every day, ideally with one person or VA who does most of the quoting, and you want every result reviewed before it goes out.
Your rater already reaches the carriers you need and quotes are fast enough, your IT can't approve a desktop install, or you need a self-serve tool you can switch on today.
The good and the catch
Disclosure: Relay is built by Get Talky, the team behind Agency Tech Guide. We rank it in AI quoting agents, commercial quoting, AI agency assistants and submission intake, and we label it “Ours” everywhere it appears, so weigh our view accordingly. How we rank our own product.
What it is
Relay is an AI workspace for independent P&C agencies. You give it a client’s documents and a job. It fills in carrier portals, then hands back the quotes, ACORD drafts, proposals or certificate drafts for your team to check. Binding, issuing coverage and anything sent to a client stay with your licensed staff.
It started as a quoting tool called RPA Studio and was renamed Relay in April 2026. Quoting is still the core. Product facts below come from relayins.com. The experience comes from six months of setting it up with agencies, which we don’t name.
How it works
Per the vendor’s site, a quote runs like this:
- A quote starts as a card. Dec pages, an application, a web form or an email lands on a shared Work board.
- Your team checks the details. Relay reads the documents and fills in the application once, and each field shows its source. Missing details stay blank until someone answers. Someone on your team reviews it before any carrier work starts.
- Relay works the carrier sites. It runs in its own browser on your computer, with one session per carrier you choose. It uses your agency’s logins and stops when it needs a person for a login, MFA, a CAPTCHA or a question.
- Quotes come back side by side. Each carrier comes back as quoted, declined or referred, with the premium, the quote number, a note on anything to check, and the carrier’s quote PDF.
From the same client file, Relay can draft an editable proposal, an ACORD application, a certificate of liability draft (it won’t infer additional-insured status without the endorsement) or a renewal comparison of the expiring policy against the offer.
Where it’s strong
Carrier reach. Relay works in the portals you already quote in, so it isn’t capped by a rater’s carrier list. Rater users tell us they take the first-pass number, then re-key the top three to five carriers by hand to finish the quote and the replacement cost. That second pass is the work Relay is built for.
Review built in. The site says Relay never guesses. Our own rule is that it stops and asks rather than make an underwriting call. Household members missing from an auto app are a good example. Agencies we work with focus their review on the property address and the occupancy, and both are easy to check because every field shows its source.
Volume for one dedicated quoter. It works best when one person, often a VA, runs most of the agency’s quoting and lets several carriers run at once. Relay’s results page reports one agency team going from one to ten quote packets per operator-hour. That’s a single implementation reported by Relay’s founder, not an audited average.
Where it falls short
Setup is real work. Agencies using Relay tell us MFA is the biggest hurdle. Codes often land in a shared inbox, and forwarding them usually needs the agency’s IT person or managed service provider. Carriers set their own login rules, and some require a person to sign in. Expect pauses, and don’t plan on unattended quoting until you’ve tested your carriers. At agencies with locked-down Windows PCs, endpoint security has blocked the desktop install or its updates until IT approved it.
Speed has varied. Early on, some agencies waited hours, not minutes, for quotes, and their staff went back to the rater. Agencies tell us speed decides whether a tool gets used at all. Turnaround has improved since, but measure it on your own carriers.
Homeowners is harder than auto. Replacement cost, roof and plumbing years, and pool or trampoline questions vary by carrier and are often missing from the app. Expect more pauses on home than on auto.
It works alongside your systems, not inside them. Relay works with any AMS, rater or carrier portal, because it works in the same screens your team already uses. That also means a listed system isn’t the same as automatic data sync. If you need quotes or clients written back to your AMS, confirm it for your system during setup. Carriers are confirmed by carrier, line and state.
Young and changing. Relay is invite-only, and some agencies told us it changed faster than they could retrain staff.
Pricing and setup
Relay doesn’t publish prices as of October 2026. The site describes simple monthly plans with setup explained before you commit. The AI runs on your own ChatGPT account, billed separately by OpenAI, so budget for both.
Setup is guided. After a 30-minute call to see how you quote today, the Relay team sets up your carriers and runs one of your real submissions with you. Your team then takes over. Plan ahead for carrier credentials, MFA forwarding and an IT-approved install. Relay doesn’t claim SOC 2 certification, so ask for its current security documentation.
Who should look elsewhere
- Agencies whose rater already covers their markets. If quotes are fast and you rarely finish in portals, a comparative rater does the job with one login and a flat fee.
- Teams that want help without handing over logins. A browser extension such as Gaya speeds up portal entry while your staff stay in the driver’s seat.
- Service-heavy agencies. If endorsements, billing questions and email take most of the day, start with the AI agency assistants rankings. Several agencies we talk to already use general-purpose AI for that work.
