Applied and Travelers pilot "submissionless" commercial renewal quotes in Epic

Cytora pulls renewal risk data from Applied Epic and sends it to carriers, which return quotes before remarketing starts. Travelers is the first carrier.

What happened

On July 8, 2026, Applied Systems announced a “submissionless” commercial insurance workflow, with Travelers as the first anchor carrier. The aim is for carriers to send renewal quotes into the agency’s management system before the agency starts remarketing.

Per Applied’s release, it works in four steps:

  1. Agentic AI scans the agency’s renewal book in targeted lines and flags eligible renewals.
  2. When a policy qualifies, Cytora turns the risk data already in Applied Epic into a structured submission. Applied bought Cytora in September 2025.
  3. The data goes automatically to participating carriers’ quoting services.
  4. Quotes come back into the AMS.

The release did not name the lines of business or give a rollout date. It said Applied plans to add more participants. Insurance Business found no disclosed commercial terms between Applied and Travelers. It also noted that Quandri, a separate renewal automation vendor, has extended its renewal integrations to AMS360 and HawkSoft as well as Epic.

Greg Toczydlowski, who runs Travelers’ Business Insurance segment, said early renewal quotes mean agents spend less time on process.

Why it matters for agencies

In our view, this flips the renewal remarketing workflow. Today a CSR or account manager rebuilds the submission, sends it to markets and chases quotes. In this model the carrier gets the data from Epic and quotes first. If it works, small and mid-size commercial renewals with a participating carrier could arrive with a quote already in hand.

There are open questions. Which data leaves Epic, and does the client’s consent cover it? What happens when the Epic record is stale, such as old payroll, a missing location or an outdated vehicle schedule? A quote built on bad data is worse than no quote, because it looks finished. And with one anchor carrier, it is a narrow pilot for now.

Note that this release came before Applied’s Epic Conductor launch on September 29. Applied has said connected-trading renewal requests are part of Conductor, so ask how the two relate.

What to do

  • Epic agencies with a big Travelers commercial book: ask your Applied rep and Travelers marketing rep whether you can join, and for which lines.
  • Clean your renewal data now. Exposures, locations, vehicle schedules and payroll in Epic will feed carrier quotes directly.
  • Ask which fields are shared with carriers, and whether you can approve each outbound submission.
  • Everyone else can wait until more carriers sign on and lines are named.
