The short version

HawkSoft and AMS360 both run personal and commercial P&C agencies: clients, policies, carrier downloads, accounting and client communication. They come from different places.

HawkSoft is independently owned, founded in 1995, and aimed at small and mid-size agencies. Its selling points are support and low lock-in. The trade-off is that the full product is a Windows desktop app, not a browser system.

AMS360 is Vertafore’s core AMS. Its selling points are detailed accounting and tight ties to Vertafore’s other products. The trade-offs, per reviewers, are cost, clicks and support response times.

Carriers and lines

Neither system quotes carriers on its own. Both bring in carrier downloads and connect to raters.

HawkSoft handles personal and commercial lines. Carrier downloads update policies and trigger automated workflows. HawkLink, a Chrome add-on included with the subscription, autofills policy data on carrier websites. HawkSoft Rater sends client data to ten comparative raters, including EZLynx, PL Rating, TurboRater, QuoteRUSH and Applied Rater. That link covers home and auto. Commercial rating runs through separate partners such as InsureZone.

AMS360 handles personal and commercial lines. Carrier downloads bring in new policies, endorsements, claims and renewals, and update direct-bill commission statements. TransactNOW brings carrier eDocs and messages in, with single sign-on to carrier sites. Personal lines rating runs through Vertafore’s own PL Rating.

The practical difference: HawkSoft lets you keep whichever personal lines rater you use. AMS360 is built to pair with PL Rating.

Workflow and integrations

HawkSoft is a native Windows app with data hosted in the cloud. A browser-based Agent Portal covers a subset of tasks, such as client and policy lookups, logs, tasks, reports and trust accounting. It includes Retention and Uprate Alerts, batch email, text and e-signature, trust accounting, commission imports and a QuickBooks link. Its partner directory lists API integrations for AgencyZoom, SALT, Canopy Connect, Gaya and several AI vendors.

AMS360 offers guided workflows through My Agency Home, renewal tools, texting, InsurLink for client self-service, AMS360 Mobile and a Salesforce sync. Accounting covers billing, reconciliation, commission splits and a general ledger. Vertafore’s page shows a SOC 2 seal and mentions an open API. Vertafore’s Velocity AI agents include Email and Reconciliation agents tied to AMS360, and a Coach agent announced in September 2026, per ColoradoBiz.

What reviewers say (October 2026):

  • HawkSoft has about 84 G2 reviews (4.8/5) and 64 on Capterra (4.5/5). Reviewers praise support and ease of learning, and cite paid add-ons, limited batch actions and reporting, and an API that was slow to open up.
  • AMS360 has about 1,100 G2 reviews (4.3/5) and 59 on Capterra (3.5/5). Reviewers praise accounting and suspense tracking, and cite cost, a dated and sometimes slow interface, and hard-to-find reports.
  • Support: G2’s comparison page gives HawkSoft a 9.6 quality-of-support score and AMS360 an 8.6. HawkSoft also reports 97% first-call resolution.

Most HawkSoft G2 reviewers come from agencies of 50 or fewer employees, and HawkSoft doesn’t document benefits administration.

Pricing and contracts

HawkSoft doesn’t list prices on its site. Its G2 listing, supplied by the vendor, describes a flat base fee plus $94 per user per month (October 2026). The agreement has no term beyond 30 days and no early termination or data extraction fees. Conversion specialists handle data migration, and agencies can work within 24 hours of final conversion. Add-ons and partner integrations cost extra.

AMS360 has no published rate card. Cost depends on seats, package tier and modules, and PL Rating, InsurLink and Client Communications are separate products. Vertafore doesn’t publish contract terms or an implementation timeline.

Which one should you pick?

  • Small and mid-size agencies that rank support first: HawkSoft, based on G2 scores and its reported first-call resolution.
  • Agencies wary of lock-in: HawkSoft’s 30-day terms and no exit fees lower the risk of switching.
  • Agencies that want to keep their current rater: HawkSoft connects to ten personal lines raters.
  • Agencies already using PL Rating, InsurLink or AgencyZoom: AMS360 keeps you in one vendor’s stack.
  • Remote or Mac-based teams: HawkSoft’s full feature set needs Windows, and some G2 reviewers report lag over remote access. Ask Vertafore how AMS360 is deployed for your setup before assuming it fits better.
  • Agencies with heavy accounting needs or multiple branches: AMS360’s accounting depth is its most-praised feature.
