The short version
Applied Epic and AMS360 are two of the best-known agency management systems for larger independent agencies. Both handle clients, policies, accounting, carrier downloads and documents. Both keep pricing private, and reviewers on both say they take effort to learn.
The split is scope and ecosystem. Epic covers commercial, personal and benefits in one system, and Applied says it typically fits agencies with 10 to 500+ staff. AMS360 is a P&C system that works best alongside Vertafore’s other products: PL Rating, InsurLink, AgencyZoom and ImageRight. If you’ve already built your agency on one vendor’s tools, switching to the other is a large migration.
Carriers and lines
Neither system quotes carriers on its own. Both rely on carrier downloads and on raters.
Applied Epic covers personal, commercial and benefits. Applied says Ivans download and data exchange connect Epic with more than 700 carrier markets (October 2026). Personal lines quoting sits inside Epic, and commercial submissions go out by comparative rating, application packet or email. In July 2026, Applied announced “submissionless” commercial renewal quotes delivered inside the AMS, with Travelers as the first anchor carrier.
AMS360 covers personal and commercial. Vertafore’s 2026 data sheet lists carrier downloads for new policies, endorsements, claims and renewals, plus direct-bill commission updates. TransactNOW brings carrier eDocs and messages into the system with single sign-on to carrier sites. Personal lines rating runs through PL Rating, Vertafore’s comparative rater.
Workflow and integrations
Epic runs in a browser. Permissions can be set by role, branch and client. Open APIs let other tools read and write client and policy data. Applied’s Vendor Certification Program reviews third-party integrations. Epic Conductor adds AI for submissions, policy data entry, policy checks and commission reconciliation, under each user’s Epic permissions with audit logs. Applied says Conductor handles one task at a time with a person overseeing each. Whole-workflow agents are planned, not shipped, as of October 2026.
AMS360 offers guided workflows through My Agency Home, renewal tools, AMS360 Messenger for texting, InsurLink for client self-service and AMS360 Mobile. AMS360 Connect syncs accounts and contacts with Salesforce. Vertafore’s page shows a SOC 2 seal and mentions an open API. Vertafore’s Velocity AI agents include Email and Reconciliation agents tied to AMS360. In September 2026 it announced more, including a Coach agent for how-to questions, per ColoradoBiz.
Reviews (October 2026) cut both ways. Epic has about 2,200 G2 reviews (4.4/5) and about 140 on Capterra (4.2/5). Reviewers credit it for keeping large, multi-line books in one place, and cite a long learning curve, extra clicks, cost and uneven support. AMS360 has about 1,100 G2 reviews (4.3/5) and 59 on Capterra (3.5/5). Reviewers praise its accounting and suspense tracking, and cite cost, a dated and sometimes slow interface, hard-to-find reports and limited integrations.
Pricing and contracts
Neither vendor publishes pricing as of October 2026. Both quote through sales.
Applied says Epic implementation depends on book size, lines and how much history you convert, and includes data mapping and training. Reviewers cite extra charges for data access and outside consultants during migration. Epic Conductor pricing isn’t published.
Vertafore prices AMS360 by seats, package tier and add-on modules. Many useful pieces, such as PL Rating, InsurLink and Client Communications, are separate products. Vertafore doesn’t publish an implementation timeline.
Neither vendor publishes standard contract terms. Get conversion scope, add-on fees and exit terms in writing.
Which one should you pick?
- Large agencies with P&C and benefits books: Applied Epic, which covers both in one system.
- Agencies growing by acquisition across branches: Epic’s branch-level permissions and certified ecosystem are built for that scale.
- P&C agencies already using PL Rating, InsurLink or AgencyZoom: AMS360 keeps you in one vendor’s stack with single sign-on.
- Agencies that prize agency accounting: AMS360’s accounting gets consistent praise from G2 reviewers.
- Small or single-line personal lines agencies: neither is the obvious fit. Applied itself points these agencies to EZLynx, and lighter systems are faster to learn.
